Jersey City, NJ — The screenplay for Remnants of Nova has officially been selected by the Snake Alley Festival of Film to compete for the ‘Writer’s Block’ award for best short screenplay. Marking the first selection of its kind for the script.
“My producing team and I are honored to have been selected to compete at ‘Snake Alley’ this year,” said Producer Richard S. Ormsby, “this selection is the culmination of over a year of script development by writers James Barker and Kimmie Devereux, and we look forward to spreading our message of love for the LGBTQ+ community in Iowa.”
Snake Alley Festival of Film dedicates itself to screening and judging the best short films and screenplays from around the world. The festival was founded in 2012. Events take place at the historic Capitol Theater in downtown Burlington, Iowa.
Remnants of Nova will receive a live reading on July 14, 2023 in the heart of the festivities.
The filmmakers each have personal ties to New Jersey. Richard S. Ormsby and Kimmie Devereux hail from New Jersey and James Barker from Virginia. The three met during their undergraduate years at Montclair State University where they studied film and television production under seasoned filmmakers Roberta Friedman, Marya Cohn, and Karl Nussbaum.
Production is planned to take place at various locales in New Jersey in January 2024, with a team of local talent.
